MDI High School Team Racing
Sailing is one of the fastest growing High School sports in the country. The MDI High School Sailing Team is evidence of that with its yearly growth in both the spring and fall.
The Team starts their spring season about mid March by launching their fleet of 420’s at The MDI Community Sailing Center.
The twelve Club 420 sailing dinghies they use were acquired when Oceanus Institute
(The teams founding organization) and the Northeast Harbor Fleet struck a deal to independently
raise funds and then jointly purchase the twelve boats. Within this agreement the High School Team
is able to use the NEHF boats for their spring and fall season and in return the NEHF uses the teams
boats during the summer months for their junior programs. The team had a sucessfull year placing at
many of their regattas.
The MDI Community Sailing Center is proud and happy to have the
MDI High School Sailing Team call us home, offering them a warm space to go after frigid practices,
waterfront space to tie up their fleet, and on the water support when hosting regattas.
