There are many ways to be involved at MDICSC. You can take a class, volunteer, donate, watch the races, even buy a boat. This is what one volunteer and member has to say about getting on board:
“We have had the opportunity to sail many different boats, including at least one classic wooden sloop that is now in the Great Harbor Maritime Museum in Northeast Harbor. We have experienced MDI in ways that we never would have had we built our life solely ashore. First, we have seen the island from the sea, an entirely different perspective. We have experienced the vagaries of weather on the Maine Coast, including lots of wind or none and clear skies and sudden enveloping fog. We have sailed with seals, porpoises, loons, and arctic ducks watched by bald eagles overhead or from trees ashore. We have made treasured friendships with like -minded people. And importantly, we have learned a lot along the way, including the important lesson that there is much more yet to be learned. So, our sailing has added immeasurably to the richness of our lives. Living here in a vibrant community is wonderful. Being an active participant in keeping a vibrant and vital community organization afloat is priceless. We encourage you to give it a try.” –Jim Colquhoun
